hip'tique + Marilyn Monroe ~ A Tastemakers Event

Friday, June 8, 2012

Certain invitations simply cannot be turned down. Like the chance to celebrate our beloved Marilyn Monroe's would be 86th birthday and the release of her photos "the lost nudes" in Vanity Fair! One of my favorite places to shop, hip'tique in Santa Monica, hosted this fabulous event, and nothing could have kept me away (not even a 6 month pregnant, growing belly!)

Guests dined picnic style for this delectable tastemakers event, with cuisine by Meal and a Spiel, chocolates by Intentional Chocolate, and spirits from Dry Tour.

The gorgeously sexy photos, currently up for auction, were on display throughout hip'tique's generous wall space, and hung above some of this season's hottest dresses!

If you aren't aware of the history behind these rare photos, read here for more. But the short (and fascinating!) version is, Marilyn was shooting her last film, Something's Got to Give when she decided to strip (completely) naked for a pool scene. She knew the power these still images would bring, and soon landed several magazines, rocketing her star quota even more, and rivaling the likes of Liz Taylor at that time. But in the end, that film was her swan song. She was fired for being "difficult" right after she celebrated her 36th birthday on set. (2nd pic down) Two months later, she was gone forever. The reemergence of these breathtaking photographs reminds us (yet again) that Marilyn Monroe is the original American sex icon, and the greatest female star of all time.

Although the story of her final days is always a melancholy one, a night in honor of her unmatched beauty and charisma, can bring all of us together in a way that begs for fancy frocks and celebration! (My fabulous silk number is a pregnant mama's dream, and can be worn during and after the bump! Check out HATCH Collection here.)

The atmosphere was kept authentic and dreamy with a screening of two of Marilyn's beloved films...

And the company of fashionable tastemakers themselves, had me at hello.

The party was simply a hit. And I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it.

We love you, Marilyn. xx
