My trick for killer lashes

Friday, March 30, 2012

As you know, I'm a big fan of false lashes and wear them for almost every big night out, especially when I know I'm going to be photographed, they just make your eyes POP.  But for those moments (aka most days) when you want the fabulous without the false, I've come up with my own killer method for making every day lashes HUGE.

1. Use a hairdryer to lightly heat your eyelash curler. Hold it on the curler for a few seconds. Check the heat on the back of your wrist before applying to your lash. (You don't want it too hot, just warm!) This also helps to melt away clumped up, old mascara. Wipe clean with a tissue.

2. You must use a good eyelash curler. They really are worth the investment. My favorite is Shiseido, it works like magic!

3. Use one coat of a lash lengthening/thickening mascara, with a brush that separates lashes. I'm loving Clinique lash doubling mascara. Once this dries, curl again.

4. And finish it off with a super voluminous mascara, such as Maybelline "Falsies" (found in drugstores). The combination of two different types of mascara, really does the trick!

Date Night

Monday, March 26, 2012

I feel like it's been forever since I had a date night with the hubs. Probably because it has. With life and work and changes taking center stage lately, it was nice to slow down (if only for a few hours!) and remember why this whole thing started. (Reminderreminder...)

I opted for comfy jelly flats instead of heels
(avail here)
Toasted with sprite instead of wine to the closing of a very big deal
Baked Salmon instead of sushi
And a 9PM bedtime instead of our days of midnight past
(I'll take it)

We felt a little bit lighter by the time we closed our eyes, and drifted off to sleep, toes touching, as we discussed a very good movie. (Loved it).

Saturday, March 24, 2012

I actually slept in today. Whilst sleeping in for me is 8:30AM, it still makes a world of difference and I love my husband madly for taking the monkey to the park so this could actually occur. As I sit here drinking my morning coffee (I'm allowed one a day, so don't judge),  and do non-important lazy things like pin on Pinterest and look at pretty clothes, I thought I'd share what I'm loving these days...

DVF for babyGap - I want to get Stella thisthisthisthis, and these.

I love nearly everything that Blair over at Atlantic Pacific does, but particularly this Heidi Merrick dress she wore recently. I met Heidi at a trunk show for her pillows (coverage here) and always forget to remember to die over her dresses too.

The best tangerine lips my friend (and pro makeup artist) over at Sunset and 5th broke down for everyone (and every type) here. I think I might just order the Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Stick in Orange Poppy.

Well, I'm off to enjoy the weekend! xx

Dressed for the Pacific Design Center

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Stopped by the Pacific Design Center yesterday with my favorite design partner and handsome friend. After a delicious cob salad and much needed catch-up time, we browsed some showrooms and had the chance to meet the likes of Reagan Hayes and John Robshaw.

I hadn't planned on shooting my outfit, but my buddy insisted (thus, the iPhone snaps). I'm so happy I grabbed this Calypso dress at the debut of their Spring line. It's so comfy and swingy and will work in so many ways... from flip-flops at the beach, to dressed up when needed. Remember this thrift score bag here?

Dress - Calypso
Cropped Military Blazer - Forever21 (similar)
Satchel - Vintage via thrift found here
Seed Bead Necklace & Wooden Bangles - thrift

On The Marina - make it work!

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

I didn't get a full shot of what I wore, but spending time with my two loves at our favorite park on the Marina seemed to be a bit more important. Though the crazy wind nearly blew us out of there, (a bamboo tree fell over on our house last night!) we stayed long enough to have a few laughs.

I broke down my look for you, however,  a mission to make what I already have in my closet, work for my expanding frame.

1. Black leggings 2. Vintage floral dress
3. Cropped black leather 4. Leopard flats

"Now That I've Found You"

Monday, March 19, 2012

Super busy today with lots to do, but I wanted to share a song that's been on repeat in my world.

I know, I know... lots of mushy mush going on lately. Can't help it. It's just where I am these days... And what's sweeter than a husband and wife singing duo?

Recent Thrift Scores

Friday, March 16, 2012

It's been a while since I've been to my favorite thrift store. In fact, when I walked in the other day, the clerk was so shocked at my arrival she couldn't help but blurt out "we thought you gave up on us!"

I patted my belly proudly and told her I had been too sick for my usual Sunday morning dollar hunts. It felt good to be back. While scavenger hunting with a bump in mind is an entirely different task indeed, I found the mission alone to be quite therapeutic.
I scored a Catherine Malandrino slip dress for $3.50 that cleaned up perfectly at my trusty dry cleaners. And this gorgeous vintage leather satchel is so perfect and in mint condition. Only $5.00 bucks. Boo-ya!

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Well, there's no point trying to hide it. ("It" being this, in case you missed it.)

Plus, if I didn't tell you - you'd just think I was eating a lot of pasta lately. Now that the morning sickness is (mostly) gone, that's probably going to be a little closer to the truth... as long as it's drenched in hot sauce.
Here's my take on spring florals with a tough edge. I'm glad I got this jacket in a size medium, which is giving my assets room to grow. Also happy I held onto this dress (which I almost got rid of!) because it's pretty perfect pregs gear. It feels good to have lipstick on again.
Hope you're having a great week! xx

Jewelmint promo code! 50% off!

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

I have to admit, my first reaction when I saw this rad bolero tie on Jewelmint was daaamn... beaten to the punch! Being a serious lover of all things stylishly past, I've always wanted to reinvent the old-fashioned bolo tie into something modern.

Kudos to Kate Bosworth & Cher Coulter for doing this vintage inspired piece right! And lucky for me, I was able to score one of my own and get the chance to work with Jewelmint on a very special promo code just for November Grey readers!
I'm excited to wear it traditionally over a button-down (just like a super chic Parisian girl I saw at a cafe once), but this time around I decided to wear it more like a necklace, to set off my low cut tee.
{Blazer - Thrift, Tee - Calypso St Barth, Maxi Skirt - American Apparel, Loafers - Dolce Vita c/o Farfetch, Beret - Veronica M, Handbag - Olivia & Joy ( I found a similar one for you here!)}

The Chain Gang does another swap!

Monday, March 12, 2012

Ready for another Vintage Thrift Swap? This time SEVEN different bloggers take their turn rocking the SAME thrifted item in their very own unique way.

When my partner in crime over at Secondhand Star found this beaded top, it was huge and shapeless. But leave it to her genius skills to turn it into something totally versatile! And when she decided to start her very own blog Sunset and 5th to showcase her talent in both design and beauty, I thought - Bingo! Perfect for our next swap!
I loved the detail and the sleeves, and although it was cut into a jacket, I wanted to find a way to add a little shape to my petite frame. So I tucked it into a favorite Forever21 skirt (last worn around the holidays here) and belted it for a fun night out.

Want to win this gorgeous top for yourself?

Head on over to Sunset and 5th  for official rules and to enter!!

And be sure to visit all of these blogs to see the different ways each member of the Chain Gang rocked it!
