Mad Men Collection ~ Banana Republic

Thursday, February 28, 2013

I thought I'd round out the week by sharing some serious serious crushing I've been doing on the next Mad Men launch for Banana Republic! {Sigh} I just love this era. The reminiscent time when women dressed like women and men dressed like men and... Oh, just take a peek for yourself!

Peggy Knit Shift Dress
I'm so all about this color combo of shamrock and navy. And the keyhole neckline is so chic!

Such an easy dress that could be dressed up with a modern, thick heel, or casual style with a nice, nude flat.

I'm pretty sure I just need to get this. I'll don it Jackie O' style around my head with some fat, fab sunglasses, or tie it to the end of my favorite bag.

Vertical Stripe Dress
I've been dreaming up ways to wear the vertical stripe and this just might do the trick. A very slimming way to wear the trend in a very classic cut. Love the back!

Anything you're crushing on lately?

East West Mamas: Paint Your Lips.

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Two of my favorite things: A good tee and a good lipstick color. Neither one of these have to break the bank! Sometimes a bright lip and a simple tee is all it takes for quick and easy chic! So I joined up with my girl, Carly from Thirty Something Fashion to share some of our thrifty faves! {And give you a chance to win both! See below.}
Mine: Tee - Old Navy. It's oversized, vintage soft, and I found it on clearance for a couple of bucks.
Lipcolor - Wet and Wild Megalast Lipcolor in Dollhouse Pink. I was crushing on a much more expensive bright pink by Elizabeth Arden called "Pink Vibrations" when I found this identical (I mean identical) shade for mere pennies! It's velvety soft, slightly matte and such a fun bright for spring!
You must give it a try! Hurry up and enter below or run to your local drugstore.
Now head on over to Carly's blog to see her favorite inexpensive bright lipstick shade and casual tee and enter to win on her blog too!

Rules to Enter:

1) You must be a follower via gfc of November Grey (If you are already a follower, let me know!)
2) Check out Thirty Something Fashion and her faves here!
3) Leave a comment here that you'd love to try this fab lip color and leave your email address so I can contact you if you win! Simple.

Good Luck!

Bits and pieces and trying to find moments between chaos to make this house a home.

Oscars 2013 - Jessica Chastain - My FAVE

Those red shorts.

Thursday, February 21, 2013

I've been experimenting with this new hair and added some wave to it recently which created a whole new look. Truthfully, long hair is more versatile, but I'm determined to still switch things up from time to time with the occasional wave or tweak. (I used this barrel iron here.)
I can't even express to you guys how much I love these red porters. I hope you aren't sick of seeing them because I don't think I'll ever get sick of wearing them. Talk about versatile. I've worn them in so many ways over the past couple of years. They are my favorite creation from a little project called Secondhand Star - a blog turned almost reality show that was a labor of love between myself and a fellow vintage fashion loving friend. (If you're a new reader, we took thrifted gems and recreated and redesigned them! You can see some of the before's and after's here.)
Hope you're having a good week... what? You don't match your lips to your shorts?

Sweater - Via clothing exchange
(Going to host another one soon!)

Necklace - JewelMint

Leopard Coat

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

I've been wanting a leopard coat like, FOREVER. I truly believe it's one of those staples that every woman should have in her closet. It never goes out of style and you always carry yourself with a little bit of glamour when sporting one. I've been tracking this one from Asos for some time now and finally snagged it on super sale. (I mean super. Like $30 bucks.) I know we're headed into spring, but I can still toss this baby on for the next few chilly weeks and I'll love it for several winters to come.

Coat - Asos
(I'm wearing US size 6 - I like it a little roomy)
Tee - Old Navy
Skirt - Vintage
(Also worn here)
Bag - Vintage

Styled by my sis

Monday, February 18, 2013

Whenever my sisters and I get together it's so creative and chaotic and crazy and fun. Collaboratively we love to dive into fashion, makeup, hair, beauty, music and any kind of art we can get our hands on for the (sometimes short) duration of our time together. As I mentioned yesterday, my sis, Lisa and I played a little game where I let her pick out anything from my closet to style me with. I couldn't look in the mirror to approve it or make any suggestions at all. Then we went into my back yard to do a little photo shoot. A certain little munchkin wanted to get in on the action and that makes these some of my favorite pictures ever.

Tee - Calypso St. Barth
Pants - Vintage Redesign by Secondhand Star

Stella's gold peep-toes are from Old Navy (similar)

Street Style - my sis, Lisa Dempsey

Sunday, February 17, 2013

When my sis showed up for some hang time over the long weekend, I was totally digging her look. Truth be told, she's much braver and edgier than I am (fashion wise) and I absolutely love that about her! So much so, that we played a little game while she was helping me unpack... I let her pick out anything from my closet for me to wear. Then we photographed it. Check in tomorrow for the pics! Styled and photographed by Miss Lisa Dempsey, edgy fashionista, makeup artist extraordinaire.

Sunglasses - Michael Stars
Jacket - Forever 21 (similar here)
Watch - Michael Kors
Pants - Thrift (Similar here. Going to steal them soon - so amaze!)
Washed Canvas Chucks - Converse - Mine!
(I almost threw these out several times, but glad I hung on to them. Dying for a pair of white All Stars!)

Happy Valentine's Day {What I've learned about marriage}

Vintage Post Card Shirt

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I love it when I find super unique pieces via thrift. This vintage Liz Claiborne top is 100% silk and feels luxurious and deliciously quirky at once.  I haven't worn in for a while, not since about this time here, when I was doing a lot of menswear looks (mostly to rebel against a certain "dress code" at work). It felt nice to pull it out again and wear it in an easy, deconstructed way while out shopping for home decor. Couch and bed are in!  Let the linens and drapery hunt begin!

Family Nautical Style - Outfitted {in part} by Gap

Monday, February 11, 2013

We had the pleasure of attending a seriously adorable birthday party yesterday. My friend throws the most incredible kiddo events (ever!) and this nautical themed one was no exception. In fact, it may have been her best one yet. Equipped with a hand-built, hand-painted ship for the little ones to play in, a "milk" photo booth set up for the entire family to enjoy, and hand-sewn, fabric hats for everyone. I keep telling her that she should quit her day job and do this full time and I really hope she listens. Life is too short to not do what you're good amazing at.

Anyhoo, the wardrdobe... We were all encouraged to dress up in theme and stripes and of course I jumped at the opportunity to play along. (What's more fun than dressing up, I ask you? Nothing!

So I headed to Gap to pull some fun nautical pieces to go with our wardrobes at hand. Here's what we wore:

Mommy: Striped Academy Blazer - Gap, White denim - Paige, Polka dot blouse - Bebe, Shoes - Converse.
Daddy: Striped Tee - Gap, Sweatshirt - American Apparel.
Stella: Striped Tulle Dress (sold out online, but avail at some stores) - Gap, Cherokee Ballerina Flats - Target, Pea Coat - Thrift, Denim Chambray - Old Navy, Red Polka Dot Tie - from my Bebe blouse!
Bodhi: Striped Navy Sweater Pants & Drawstring Popover Hoodie - Gap

*PS - did you notice the munchkin's new haircut? She wanted to be like mommy. {Heart... melting...}
