#CalypsoCares

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

One of my favorite brands,  Calypso St. Barth is currently hosting #CalypsoCares - a clothing donation effort in support of Clothes4Souls. Simply bring in a gently used dress, skirt or shirt into a Calypso boutique and receive 20% off your clothing purchase. A perfect excuse to spring clean!

I was pulling some beautiful frocks from them recently for an upcoming Séchoir shoot and donated some goodies on the way! How cute is this tiny polaroid they snapped?

Stay tuned for a very special video on Séchoir featuring Calypso St. Barth and the incredibly gifted singer/songwriter Zee Avi.

And just like that...

Things are looking up.

Just got some great news regarding the new business, friends... and I am seriously on cloud 9. It's all happening.

Keep believing, keep going... keep surrounding yourself with positive believers! Don't stop! Go go go!

My Bedroom

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

I've been wanting to share my bedroom for some time now, but as mentioned in my previous post, these things take time. It's a continuous work in progress, but once I found the perfect bedding and meaningful accents, things started to fall into place.
By the way, I'm not much of a purple/lavender fan, but we had our bedroom walls painted a soothing grey, which turned out to have unexpected lavender undertones, so we decided to just go with it.
Much of the artwork in our home was done by artisan friends or myself. The sequin wave paintings were done by an incredible talent, interior designer and artist, Brian Carroll. He's much more talented than he even realizes, and once I can afford to commission more pieces for my future Séchoir office, I will! Don't they remind you of fabric and fashion?
And then there's the lovely "Cricket" print by Leigh Viner. Owning one of her prints is essential for style lovers and she has a to-die-for collection available at her etsy shop. {Enter to win one of her prints here!}
Being a wife and mother of two, I try to be practical (the circle raffia chest holds toys), but sometimes sequins are necessary in the bedroom too!
1. Curtains - silk remnants & ikea 2. "Cricket" ℅ Leigh Viner 3. Bed - Purveyor ℅ Curate
4. Bedding & Rug - HD Buttercup  5. Silver nightstand - Antique DIY
6. Lamp - One Kings Lane 7. Garden Stool - Home Goods 8. Chair - Calypso St. Barth
9. Raffia Chest - Home Goods 10. Sequin Wave Painting - Brian Carroll

I love to mix prints and textures in my clothing, so why should home design be any different?
Wearing Calpyso St. Barth sequin pants and sweater. Stella dressed herself in Old Navy polka dot leggings, layered tank & tee with a thrifted sequin top.
I'd do anything for these people, and my happiest moments are moments spent in this home... with them.
Does it get any better than this?
Here's to loving what you have and having all you need, because you know your blessings when you see them!
 I am grateful.

Special thanks to interior designer and wonderful friend, Jay Krift, for helping these pics come to life.

Caftan - Calypso St. Barth (similar)
Stella's dress - Vintage, Stella's leggings - Old Navy, Stella's vintage inspired clips - Anthropologie

You wanna know how sneaky of a mom/wife/stylist I can be? We totally didn't plan on taking family holiday photos this day. The hubs had a great idea to enjoy one of the last perfect-weather days at El Matador Beach, just the family, one sunny Sunday afternoon in November. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to snag that family photograph we'd need come December, I tucked a favorite vintage dress of Stella's into my bag, that perfectly complimented my Calypso St. Barth caftan, and made sure my dudes were in coordinating dark denim and muted colors.

The key is to not let anyone know you want to take photos. Once you do that, it's more of a nonchalant "Oh, look! I happened to bring my camera! Let's ask someone to take some shots of us!"

Wouldn't you know it, the first long-haired, bearded gentleman I asked, happened to be a professional photographer with a kind face and willing spirit, happy to play along in my silly game.

We even captured that one, magical shot… all of us (including babies!) looking and smiling to camera. But that's the photograph reserved and tucked away into a carefully addressed envelope, to be delivered by Christmas day.

Hope you're enjoying your moments. xx

Maternity look 26 weeks/Designer Networking Event

Friday, June 1, 2012

When Calypso Home Brentwood hosted a designer networking event, in association with Turquoise LA,
I knew it was going to be a fabulous night, I just didn't know what I was going to wear for it!
With the arrival of this little man rapidly approaching, it's become exceedingly difficult to dress the way I want to. Thinking outside the box and acting creatively is a must. There are also very few maternity options (in my opinion, anyway) that don't suck. (One exception that I will wear to another event this weekend, I can't wait to share!)
Anyway, I usually prefer to take something non-maternity and make it work with the bump in my own way. In this case, Calypso St. Barth worked again. This dress, (currently unavailable online, but similar here) did the trick just fine.
I only needed to belt the waist (is it still considered a waist?) and throw on my fave tuxedo blazer as of late, and I felt (almost) myself.
The heels, however, had t-minus 4 hours and they were kaput.
The delightful company, and amazing eye candy, topped it off as a night to remember.
Fashion, and design... what could be better?
Happy weekend, loves. xx
